DARKE | gallery is pleased to present ?PAPER WORK? a group exhibition of works on paper by Houston artists Wendy Wagner, Lillian Warren, Lovie Olivia, Rabea Ballin, Kia Nell, Steven J Miller and John Adelman. The opening reception is Friday, October 2, 6-9 PM. The exhibition continues through the October 27.

Wendy Wagner will be exhibiting new drawings and limited editions prints. She is focused on her art making while making great strides in healing from her surgeries earlier this summer.

Exhibiting at DARKE gallery for the first time is Lillian Warren, whose recent show ?Wait with Me? was at Lawndale Art Center. Warren?s ?traffic-scapes? (image above), beautiful, surreal urban landscapes will be installed in the main gallery. Also new to the gallery, Lovie Olivia has created multi-media works on paper. Olivia has had recent exhibitions at Lawndale Art Center, Project Row House, Contemporary Arts Museum-Houston and the Community Artists Collective.

The sculptural and textural aspects of ornate and dynamic hair braiding and morphing inspire Rabea Ballin?s prints. Raised between Germany and the United States, Ballin?s family settled in rural southern Louisiana where she learned early to braid hair well enough to moonlight at her mother?s hair salon.

DARKE gallery favorite, Kia Neill will return with her nature inspired fantasy paintings on paper. Drawings by Steven J Miller and John Adelman as well as Emily Sloan?s mandala inspired sculptures will transform the second floor galleries in October.
